In 1985 he joined Doane Farm Management as a regional appraiser out of the DeKalb, Illinois office and completed appraisals throughout the Midwest. Beginning in 1985, after moving back to Michigan he became a self employed appraiser forming Hodge Appraisal Group until 1989 when he joined the staff of Trerice Tosto in Birmingham, Michigan as a staff appraiser, completing commercial, industrial and related property appraisals, primarily in Michigan. In 1991 he formed Capstone Realty Resources in Lapeer, Michigan and employed a staff of up to 15, performing appraisals on all types of properties, specializing in agricultural and agri-business properties throughout the US as well as other specialty properties including feed mills, flour mills, food processing plants, and large livestock operations for many purposes including financing, litigation and related purposes. Doug sold Capstone to Farmers National Co. in 2007 and became the Eastern District appraisal manager for FNC, managing several appraisal offices for FNC in the eastern region of the US.
