Success Story: Three used grain bins were purchased and used to grow food-grade corn. Another new grain bin was built and paid for through the premiums received. A soybean seed contract was added to the specialty crops. Then, a tornado destroyed the older bins along with other buildings. The insurance proceeds were used to replace the bins lost and add two more new bins so white corn could be added to the specialty mix.
Utilizing the tenant's farming abilities, some pastureland was converted to cropland yet soil conservation is maintained.
The income generated from the specialty crops is high and we continue to search for ways to maintain and improve the farm. The owner is very happy with the results.
