About Steve
I currently work as a manager of land assets for “non-operating” landowners, be it investors looking for a strong return of investment of land they own in their financial portfolio, or farm families who no longer farm the land they once did, but want to keep the land as a viable investment in the future for their heirs. These land assets are commonly farmland acres, but may also include wooded/timber assets used for timber or hunting annual revenues, or even mineral assets such as oil or gas. Farmers National Company has the people in place like myself ready to assist our clients in maximizing annual revenue as well as long term equity growth of these land assets. I have been working with Farmers National Company in this role since 2014, and love what I do each day, working to serve our clients’ needs and interests, and manage these land assets throughout Michigan, Northern Indiana, and Northern Ohio.
I grew up in the Lafayette, Indiana area, working for two uncles on their row crop and feeder hog operations, as well as having worked at Purdue University’s Beef Unit, a beef cattle research farm, while attending classes at Purdue. Since graduating in 1987 with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics, I have worked in grain elevator management/grain sales, seed sales, specialty crop food grade soybeans and dry beans sales and marketing. I have experience in many areas of farming and management, and obtained an accreditation in Farm Management (AFM) in 2017 to better serve the needs of our clients.
I am also licensed to sell Real Estate in all three states of Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. We are obligated to be licensed to negotiate lease terms for farms, but also to buy and sell land for our clients. I focus these efforts on farmland assets, but also have experience selling farm operations such as dairy farms and grain handling facilities since 2014. In that time, I have sold over $160M worth of ag assets throughout these three states, having worked with multiple attorneys representing clients, as well as title agencies closing these real estate sales transactions.
My wife, Holly, and I have lived in Flushing, Michigan for the past 33 years together. We have four adult sons, two in the military (Coast Guard and Army), one working to be a firefighter/paramedic, and one graduating from Michigan State University in 2026 with an engineering/finance degree.
